Lyons Lions Club Members Continue to Provide Vision Screening Services
Vision screenings improve access to the general education curriculum and increase student success. In addition, the Georgia Department of Education has stated that the prevalence of vision loss in school-age children is one in four children. Due to this great need, the Lyons Lions Club performed vision screenings for 1st and 3rd graders at Toombs Central Elementary School on January 19. Families will be notified if the screening indicated that a follow up appointment is needed.
The Toombs County School District is grateful for the Lyons Lions Club partnership and their willingness to provide this needed service to the students and families.

Congratulations to Alli Waller for being named the 2023 PAGE STAR Student for Toombs County High School!
The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia's highest achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. The program is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation and locally sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Vidalia.
To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on any single test date of the three-part SAT taken in high school and be in the top 10% of their class.
Alli selected Mrs. Dana Manning as her STAR teacher. Mrs. Manning teaches Chemistry and Human Anatomy at Toombs County High School. Congratulations to Toombs County High School's STAR student and teacher.
In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Toombs County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2023 for students and staff.
Toombs County Middle School had our REACH Scholar signing on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. These students and their parents and or guardians signed contracts committing to satisfy the program requirements, graduating from high school, and enrolling and completing college. REACH Georgia is the State of Georgia's first needs-based mentorship and college scholarship program. The mission is to ensure that Georgia's academically promising students have the academic, social, and financial support needed to graduate from high school, access college, and achieve post-secondary success. Beginning in the 8th grade and through high school, REACH Scholars are paired with a mentor and an academic coach. Scholars must maintain good grades (2.5 GPA), behavior, and attendance. Scholars who successfully complete the program and graduate from high school are awarded a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500/year) that can be used at a University System of Georgia, Technical College System of Georgia, or eligible private post-secondary institution. The scholarship is in addition to any other grant or scholarship the student uses.
